1.0 out of 5 stars Nice graphics but unreliable content., 23 Aug 2004
By Mr. P. Stamp "paulstamp" (York, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
First let me say the 2003/2004 book was a great reference and I was looking forward to this release following my club's (Middlesbrough) most succesfull season ever.

The first thing I did (as suggested in the preface) was turn to my team's pages. What a disaster - players who weren't even in the squad listed as playing several games, games with no goalkeepers, players missing from goalscorer charts (top two strikers didn't appear in chart), the names of two players wrong, the nationality of one wrong, players listed in the wrong positions.

Obviously I don't know as much about other teams as I do my own so its hard to say whether the information on all teams are as bad but a cursory glance showed all sorts of other mistakes - Sunderland had no forwards apparently, the entire squad statistics section is missing for Sheffield United, some teams playing 3 keepers in some games - others with none.

At first glance it looks a great book with lots of photos and fact-filled tables, but ultimately a book like this stands or falls by the quality of the information and frankly it is shoddy.

Steer well clear.

2.0 out of 5 stars A huge let-down, 19 Aug 2004
By A Customer
I have been awaiting this year's BBC football yearbook with great anticipation, having bought the previous year's copy and being very impressed. The content and layout is certainly a cut above other season guides from the likes of Sky, Dorling Kindersley and The Times.

Sadly my copy arrived yesterday and being a regular Middlesbrough season ticket holder I immediately turned to the section on my own club to see the stats and was horrified to find so many mistakes, including players I've never heard of who certainly never played in the games they specified, players totally missing off charts, incorrect nationalities for players etc.

May be I'm slightly biased by the fact my team won their first trophy in 128 years in the League Cup last season and there is no section on the trophy at all - just passing mention in the games lists unlike the FA Cup which has a full round-by-round section but thats only a minor complaint !

The book should be a great reference, but ultimately a resource like this stands or falls by the validity of the stats they present and unfortunately in 1 day's casual perusal I have found almost a dozen mistakes in just one clubs data. If the rest of the book is riddled with as many mistakes then it is almost completely worthless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous graffix!, 22 Feb 2004
When i bought this book, i immediately thought: 'wow! what great graphics!' and went home and read it cover to cover, paying particular attention to the graphics. Not knowing the graphic designer, i have no idea how he found the time and sheer talent to create such great graphics.

Graphically speaking, it's bloody great.
