Indispensable! Definitely not your average scripts book., 24 Oct 2005
Script books from TV comedy series are too often just shoddily put together as a quick cash-in on a briefly popular cultural phenomenon - printed on cheap paper, a middle section offering a few derisory pages of stills from the relevant show & encased in a dreary cover. All too often brought as christmas presents, to be read once before taking a one-way trip to the local charity shop...Not so with The League of Gentlemen's Scripts and That. Its a lovingly put together scripts book of every episode of the Gents' three TV series & Christmas Special. Its the League's bible that no discerning fan would want to be without. A 600 page tome printed on quality paper, the book contains each script as broadcast but also the parts they cut out or moved to another episode. Not only that, but there are plenty of on-set photos taken by the Gents or a member of the production team, reproduced handwritten script annotations, suggestions & amendments by a member of the League, plus the Gents' drawings & sketches of their numerous characters. These goodies are not just scattered across a few pages either, but are on practically EVERY SINGLE PAGE of a 600 page book! Comprehensive & full of attention to detail, the book is a reflection of the high production standards that one has come to expect from TLoG. It is an indispensable companion to the League's television output (so far). If you're new to the Gents, 'Scripts and That' is a brilliant introduction to their unique genius. If you're a fan, this League 'bible' would make the perfect companion piece to their Complete Collection on DVD. In fact its just the ideal thing to read after a marathon TLoG viewing session! (And it has the best cover of any scripts book I have ever seen!) Don't delay, just buy a copy!
