5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!, 21 Oct 1998
By A Customer
As an American, I'd never even heard of Marriot Edgar or any of his monologues. But when a dear friend from the UK gave me this tape, I was absolutely enthralled, even lacking most of the cultural references (for example, the older British monetary system is a mystery to me; I have no idea what a crown, a guinea or a shilling are). I don't know neither the places nor most of the history that's being played on.

Still and all, even with that, the humour and the music of the wordplay hooked me instantly. Gems such as "The Lion and Albert" are quite accessible, even to we Yanks, and others, while a bit odd for those w/o the cultural references, are still very funny. The humour is gentle, never personal, suitable for children of all ages. And you may just find yourself reciting one or two to a friend or two in a pub one evening...

5.0 out of 5 stars 'tis bloody brilliant I tell thee, 8 Mar 2006
I first read THREE HA'PENCE A FOOT when I was just a lad. I loved it, it's full of good northern humour and reminds me why I like going back home to Burnley so much. For Americans, Southerners and other foreigners, and anyone born after decimal currency were introduced... You might not get all the cultural references but, you will get the charm and the humour. Go on, buy it. Amazon need the money after all, and it'll be great to read on the prom at Blackpool.
