2.0 out of 5 stars Coffee table, rather than DIY book on doing up your home, 27 Jan 1999
By A Customer
This book hovers between being a coffee table book and a interior design manual for the purists victorian home. Its very thin on DIY tips, and the really useful information you need when faced with a period home ravaged by the 20th century . The best (if rather short) section of the book follows the restoration of a house which basically was pretty much intact, with all origial fireplaces, kitchen range, and original floorboards and windows - a far cry from the pink bathroom suites, plasterboard, artex ceilings and UPVC windows most people will have to deal with. Its OK if you have no idea how your period home would once have looked, and want to get a feel for what was once there, but you'd be better off with a DIY manual if you are preparing to do any serious 'doing-up"
