Product Description

Product Description

Between 1965 and 1969 the successor to Beyond Our Ken ruled the airwaves. The show was scripted by Barry Took and Marty Feldman with music from the Fraser Hayes Four. Kenneth Horne was the golden-voiced straight man of the show, with the incredible comic talents of Kenneth Williams, Betty Marsden, Hugh Paddick and Bill Pertwee taking on the guise of a score of characters in fast and funny sketches. Its zany humour will always be remembered as a high point of 60s radio and now attracts a whole new audience in the BBC Radio Collection series of cassettes. So re-live the high times with Rambling Syd Rumpo, Julian and Sandy, Charles and Fiona, Seamus Android, Daphne Whitethigh and many more in these four hilarious programmes. One listen and the memories will come flooding back.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Trip Down Memory Lane, 21 Feb 2001
As someone who listened to Round the Horne in the 1960's I found the format of the shows and the characters very familiar. I still found myself chuckling to myself as I listened to the episode's of Armpit Theatre.Little Caesar, The Three Musketeers, The Palone Ranger abd Trilby were all excellent. My son who is a teenager also found it amusing proving that the humour included in the shows is timeless. I never get tired of listening to it. I can heartily recommend it.

2 hours of sheer bliss. Kenneth Williams at his very best, camp and totally out of control half the time. The favourite characters appear in a never ending line, Rambling Sid Rumpo, Julian and Sandy with Hugh Paddick, and all the rest of them will have you falling about. The ever genial Kenneth Horne trying to keep them all in order is a joy to listen to. And the constant barrage of double meanings give you no chance to stop laughing. It's humour at it's best, you just couldn't get away with it today, the enjoyment police wouldn't let you. Enjoy.
