Synopsis
A pickpocket plying her trade on the streets of Charlestown, Massachusetts, Darcy O'Keefe is caught in the act by would-be victim Aiden Terrell and finds herself blackmailed into assisting him on a quest to find a vicious murderer who kills for sport.

In 1835 Charlestown, Massachusetts Darcy O'Keefe works the streets of the city as one of the city's finest pickpockets. Aiden Terrell has arrived in town needing to meet with the criminal element in an effort to catch the individual who stole a family heirloom. Darcy tries to steal Aiden's wallet, but he catches her in the act. During the ensuing shuffle, Aiden quickly realizes that Darcy is a beautiful female. Instead of turning her over to the police, he tries to blackmail her into taking him to see her boss Mick O'Shaugnessy. She refuses, but Patrick Gallagher her partner arrives and not only knows Aiden from Liverpool, but escorts him to Mick, who assigns Darcy as his guide.

Aiden provides Darcy with information. However, she accuses him of holding back pertinent data, which he does not deny. Still, he refuses to tell her the full story behind the person he seeks. She begins taking him around the city, introducing Aiden to various individuals who might give them a clue. As they work together closely, the danger mounts. Additionally, they begin to fall in love with one another, but both reject this emotion as they distrust each other. Besides which, Mick and the jewel thief might just interfere with any permanent relationship from forming.

DARING THE DEVIL is an exhilarating Americana romantic suspense that sub-genre fans will fully enjoy. The story line is fun. The lead characters are a darling pair even though some of their colloquies seem contrived. The support cast makes the nineteenth century Boston superb feel genuine. Leslie LaFoy provides reader with a wonderful historical romantic suspense that will have the audience clamoring for more works set in the 1830's.

The waters run deep in this one: A torured past, memories of too little, too late and inconsolable grief...all buffered by a consuming romance. Darcy O'Keefe and Aiden Terrell are characters of brilliant color painted on a canvas of evil and menance as they stalk and are stalked by a 19th century psychopath. The cast of supporting characters is clever, the witty humor is <LOL> funny and the love story is tender and redemptive. This is everything I've come to expect from the brilliant writing style of Leslie LaFoy. If you've read LaFoy before...this one's another keeper. If not, order up...and let the fun read begin!
