5.0 out of 5 stars a real eyeopener to the tribulations of the 2nd world war, 6 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This novel was a real eyeopener to me, it made me horrified to think that this could happen in fact not so very long ago. I felt outraged at the ignorance of the people and admired the chinese peoples courage and determination.

It will make you laugh, cry, angry and proud of the main character at her incredible achievements and life long struggles just to survive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read, 5 Aug 2007
By Mrs. A. M. Chadwick (Darwen, Lancashire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Danielle Steels novel is set in the early 1940's, her main character leaves Japan and moves to America, when war breaks due to the bombing of Pearl Harbour she's seen as an enemy in a foreign country.

Her novel portraits human tragedy, strength, divided loyalties and love. The novel also tells of the terrible human loss during a tragic historical events, as well as showing the courage that people had during this un certain time.

It's a completely different novel to any of her others, I found it slow and hard to get into but it was a decent read, but she has written far better.

Not one of my favourite novels and I was a little disappointed with it.
