4.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary fantasy with a Jewish twist, 4 Jun 2008
By JJ Merelo "jmerelo" (Granada, Spain) - See all my reviews
Jack a.k.a the Yid claims to be one of the Thrice Chosen, and needs to build a spaceship, where he'll be joined by the other thrice chosen, and will go to Ish-Rail, the Promised Land. So far, so good, but if you're thinking about some space engineer working out of a far-away land, you're wrong: the spaceship is a room, and building it implies to stick posters and gold leaf on it, and create a void. He somehow convinces Lea Tillim, a waitress with superpowers, of all people, and she falls in love with him. But there are also born again mobsters, devil-worshipping grannies, the devil himself, a lesbian who speak tongues, and a whole mosaic that, like a Jewish mah-jong, pile and couple with each other in curious and fun ways.
All in all, an entertaining read.
