5.0 out of 5 stars Crime writing with a difference !, 8 April 2001
By ischade@talk21.com (Cambridge UK) - See all my reviews
I came across Rita Mae Brown and Sneeky Pie on a trip to the USA (airport bookshops strike again !) and these are murder mysteries with a difference.

Unlike Lillian Jackson Braun's 'The Cat who' series the animals actually get a say here as Rita Mae brings you into the character's world from not only the human but cat and dog's eye view (and trust me their insights are very interesting!). By the time you have read the first book (and are hungry for more) you will know the characters like your own neighbours. The books are writen with humour as well as storylines that keep you page turning until the end...and then you realise you enjoyed it so much you wish there was more of it ! Attention is paid to all the members of the community of Crozet not just the main characters and both the motive and 'who doneit' is usually a complete suprise !

More please !

I read this book on the airplane and I couldn't put it down. It made the trip much shorter. I really like the characters and the story was fantastic. I strongly recommend this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Rita Mae's style with a kick for regional readers., 23 Aug 1998
By A Customer
Rita Mae Brown has a dedicated following, but this, the first in her Sneaky Pie mystery series definitely will add readers to her list. One of the highlights to this book is the in depth use of local subject matter. She has blessed the Deep South, the Mason-Dixon Line and Florida with her wit and lively writing and now she brings it all home to the beautiful Piedmont section of Virginia. This is a series of books that a person should start with the first (this one) and continue all the way through because Rita Mae's characters and stories are too good to miss.

I am not much of a mystery fan, but I am a cat lover, and I found this book tremendously fun to read, more for the cat and dog characters than the humans. Mrs. Read more
