4.0 out of 5 stars At last an insight into the sundering, 19 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This fourth instalment delves more into the inner conflict of Haplo the patryn and his "love hate" relationship with Alfred. Many more revelations of the actual sundering are revealed with Alfreds discovery of the original council of seven. The only disapointing aspect of the book are the weak mench caracters who, unlike the previous books do nothing for the overall Grand tale. Still, a not to be missed instalment in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slipping a little., 3 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This is probably the least satisfying of all the books in the series, with the possible exception of #1. The story is advanced a lot farther in this one than in the three previous, but the characters and the storylines were the most disappointing. Grundle and the other 'mensch' characters are like small children; I'm sorry, but little kids (or characters who act like little kids) have no place in this story. Samah's part in the story reads like a direct attack on fascism. They don't even bother being subtle about it. I found the dragon-snakes very interesting though, second only to Abarrach's lazar. This book is still good, and it's necessary because everything following progresses from it. I only wish it didn't seem like a young-adult fantasy so often. And if you're one of those people complaining that the start of the series has no continuity, just read on. From book 5 onward they all start coming together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oceanly Ecstasy, 2 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I really loved the world of Pryan, but this comes in very close second. The authors have increadible ability at creating unique interesting worlds is unbelievalbe. The whole series is like nothing youve ever read, this just adds to the excitement. I like the introduction of the dragonsnakes and how the mysterys of Alfred become a little clearer. Go get it!
