Product Description

Sunday Times

She tells her story with admirable candour. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Guardian

It is her fearless examination of her "love-hate" relationship with her mother, the confused feelings of betrayal that go with success, and the family dynamics and tensions that are most fascinating...I suspect that she was far more dutiful than most. Verging on heroic in fact. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lets have a proper autobiography please Jenni, 22 Aug 2008
By Ms. S. P. WELLS "oldportobello" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
jenni Murray is a fascinating character and has lived through big social changes so I could have done with more detail of the 1960s and a way of life that has now vanished. An unusual relationship with her parents was well described but is this an autobiography or is that coming? (Alan Bennett has written about his parents and their generation in a much fuller and literary way.) There is a lot of heavy subject matter packed in here, childbirth, cancer, care of the elderly,contraception,- some painful reading and she has struggled with many complex issues over the years but too many for this short book to cover properly. For example the ladies in the fish packing plant obviously influenced her feminism greatly so I think we should have had much more detail about them and maybe some of the kind of dialogue that might have gone on between them. An interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read, 4 April 2009
By Mags057 (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) - See all my reviews
Jenni Murray has a great way with words. This super book draws you into her world completely and is a real page turner. The fact that the story is true means that many readers will relate to a lot of what she writes about. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jenni Murray autobiography, 18 May 2009
By Ruthie Mead (London, England) - See all my reviews
This is an eminently readable and hugely enjoyable book. It tells of Jenni's childhood, and in particular her relationship with her Father. It follows the decline of both parents, the death of her Mother, her own discovery of breast cancer and the death of her Father. It isn't an emotional book, but it IS incredibly moving.
