Product Description

It is Norway in September 1943. For brothers Marek and Olaf, a hunting trip out on the frozen Hardanger plateau offers a brief chance to escape the German occupation. But returning home they witness the horror of their father's arrest by the Gestapo and the start of a brutal regime under the evil Lieutenant Wold. When their daring plan for revenge goes horribly wrong, they are forced to seek refuge in the vast and unforgiving Norwegian wilderness. Saved from an icy grave by Resistance freedom-fighters, fourteen-year-old Marek is captivated by their courage and determination. He may not be a crack shot like his brother, but he is quick-thinking, resourceful and a talented mechanic. With youth on his side, the Germans probably won't suspect him - perfect for a part in the ambitious sabotage attack planned by the group. But can he keep his nerve, especially when the final assault throws his friends and family into the path of the enemy?

From the Back Cover

Short bursts of frenzied machine-gun fire filled the air and I saw the radio operator slump forward. The radio crackled. I could hear a German voice. A shiver went down my spine . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT JUST FOR KIDS, 1 Mar 2007
I came across this book inthe kids section in Tescos. The story is simply a gripping read and highly recommended. A book that is hard to put down and would make a great movie. The main charactors have a typical Boys Own outlook on life and tells their involvement with the Resistance in Norway during the war. The story is belivable and a must for those of us who can rememeber a time before mobiles, ipods and MTV.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant book :), 3 Feb 2008
The author came into our school to 'explain' his book and consequently I ended up buying a copy (signed). This book has an entralling plot in a time where war was omnipresent. The protagonists are typical teenage boys (16 and 17 if I recall correctly) who want to be part of the war effort and 'action' and get there wish eventually (without revealing the plot). I personally managed to read the book within a few hours as the language was simple but captivating. Perhaps not a piece of literary text but I would recommend the book for just a simple good read that would put a smile on your face.

5.0 out of 5 stars an amazing find!, 3 Sep 2009

This was a chance buy on a recommended list I spotted on the High Street. Will appeal to a wide range of readers because of its superb portrayal of the central young character and the substantial plot based on real or realistic events in time of war. I shall be buying the other two novels written by this author, and I doubt I shall be disappointed. A refreshing read to be recommended to young adults and adults alike.
