Amazon.co.uk Review
Crispin the Little Pig Who Had It All is pure joy. Imagine the scene: it is Christmas morning and Crispin sneaks down the stairs to see what Santa has left him this year. The box is huge. Could it be a Zybox Teddy-Bot? Or a SpeedPony ShockJockey? Or maybe a Gig-Pigsation? Of course not, because he already has all of those and they are all lying broken and battered in a pile somewhere. So what could it be? What can you possibly buy a pig who already has everything? Simple. Nothing. There is nothing in the box. And Crispin is not happy at all...

This delightful, unusual and quirkily illustrated picture book will strike a chord in any parent who has ever struggled to keep up with the wants and needs of their child, trying to please them with all the latest gizmos which keep them happy for five minutes then get tossed aside for the next must-have on the hit list. As little Crispin, the pig who has absolutely everything, discovers the delights of using his imagination, playing with his new found friends in an empty box that becomes everything from a Space Base to Crispin's Store to a fantastic castle, children will recognise that they can have fun by getting back to basics if they really try.

A great gift to share with young children: parents will love it as much, if not more, than their offspring! (Age 4 and over) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear, simple storyline and gorgeous illustrations., 24 Jul 2001

The illustrations in this beautiful book first caught my eye, and hold my 3-year-old daughter's attention when we read at bedtime. But as well as that, the story is simple and engaging.

Crispin is a pig who has all the toys and games in the world. But one Christmas he receives a gift that he doesn't quite see the worth of, at first.

There is a strong and clear message in this story, without a trace of sentimentality. I'd recommend it to anyone who is tired of having to keep up with the latest fads in toys and games for their 3-6 year olds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kids will identify with Crispin who has too many toys!, 5 Nov 2003
By A Customer
Crispin is a bit of a spoilt little piggy who gets an empty box from Santa Claus one Christmas. Soon he learns what fun he and his friends can have with so little (ie. the box) but only realizes its true value when it gets taken away by mistake.

Good story and great illustrations. I must add that although I'm not the sensitive type or overly politically correct, I was shocked at the authors use of the words "Gotcha, alien scum". It really brings no extra value to the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crispin: the BOOK that has it all - great pictures and a worthwhile message hidden in a fantastic story, 14 Sep 2007

This is a fantastic picture book, rich in colour with vivid intense illustrations that draw you right into the story. Crispin is very lucky in material terms, i.e. utterly spoilt - he has every new gadget yet takes care of none of them, and so he spends his time bored surrounded by broken toys. At Christmas, Father Christmas leaves a great green box which Crispin opens excitedly to find ...... nothing at all.. New friends show Crispin that a mere box can be anything you choose and a great deal of fun so in the end Santa's present proved to be a great stepping stone to imaginative play. There are lovely pictures of the pirate ship, castle, and space base that the box becomes. Then the box is ruined by the rain, and will Crispin's new friends prove to be fair-weather friends? Crispin, The Pig who had it all is a great antidote to the extravagance of the Xmas season as a refreshingly anti-materialistic message is presented in a fun and light-hearted way. It is also a perfect Christmas present: Santa's visit provides an element of festive flavouring, yet the story is absolutely brilliant and you'll want to read it all year round.
