5.0 out of 5 stars The Tiger By The River, 26 Oct 2009
By S. Jones (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Tiger by the River (Paperback)
I picked this book up from a charity shop, as I guessed from reading the jacket that it would appeal to me. I was not disappointed, this book is beautifully written with interwoven plots, myths and legends, real and surreal. The last few pages had me mesmerised, and totally transported to Panayur and the river Papanasini where the book is set. The prose in this book is wonderfully descriptive and the underlying themes of love, family and ultimately redemption keep you hooked until the last page. I also particularly enjoyed the indian myths and tales within this story.

If you have enjoyed or like the sound of this book I would also recommend Shining Hero by Sara Banerji and The Death of Vishnu bu Mail Suri.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small but beautifully formed, 17 Oct 2006
By Rodney H. Riley "Rod Riley" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I chanced on this book in India and bought it purely on instinct - to find that I had discovered an instant gem. For a small book, it has enormous historical reach, in addition to which it walks unnerringly (and seamlessly) between the real and surreal. Above all, it is (in the strict sense of the word) a totally charming book and one which enthralled me right up to the very last page. Whilst it may not appeal to all comers, I find it difficlut to believe that it would fail to captivate many, many more.
