Product Description

Product Description
Dr Tom Carter has invented the genescope, which can read a person's genes, their lifespan and their future from the DNA in just one hair follicle. When a genoscope scan reveals that his daughter, Holly, has an incurable brain disease, he turns to a secret brotherhood in the search for a miracle.

From the Back Cover
One man battles for the life of his daughter in the face of seemingly unbeatable odds. But to save her he must first reach for the ultimate knowledge...

At the moment of his greatest triumph, the Nobel Prize for Medicine, Dr Tom Carter's world is shattered by the assassination of his wife. He knows that the killer's bullets can only have been meant for him. In the aftermath of her death, a scan reveals that his daughter Holly has an incurable brain disorder and less than a year to live. Even the most advanced conventional science cannot save her. Something more radical is required. Tom Carter needs a miracle.

A secret brotherhood, two thousand years old, may have the answer. They need Carter's skills to complete their own sacred quest. In return they offer him the chance to look beyond the genes of man...and into the genes of God.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiction pointing to reality, 14 Feb 2006
This review is from: The Miracle Strain (Hardcover)
I'm giving it 5 stars because I cannot explain how a Marketing guy came out with such a great story! It is a Hollywood style thriller, with twist after twist (not as much as Dan Brown's stories) and very enjoyable mixture of religion, science and humanity.

I like the idea that some parts of the story are so good that you wish it could be true, and it gets again into the fact that scientists are trying to explain our beliefs with physical evidence!

A very intelligent theological/scientifical story at points obscure but certainly enjoyable from start to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best thrillers I have ever read., 24 Jan 2000

I simply could not put this book down. Even over the stove I was reading this book. As a previous reader put it, to mix religion with such an outlandish plot without causing offence took some doing. I will look out for Michael Cordy's books in future.

4.0 out of 5 stars OOOOHHHH, MIND GRAPPLING STUFF!, 9 May 2005
By Louise ROONEY "loulawton" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had heard about this via Dan Brown's works and was not at all disappointed. Whereas, for me at least, Dan Brown's work is the reality side of the the incredible, The Miracle Strain is tap-dancing slightly over the line of credibility but the idea is very thought-provoking. Like Dan Brown's style of writing it works for someone like me who leads a very hectic life but wants a read that is fast-paced, progressive through the story and riveting. Not at all indelicate which this notion could easily have tripped into and with a conclusion that doesn't offend or disappoint, really recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Dan Brown works. Very similar. DO WATCH OUT THOUGH BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON THE MIRACLE STRAIN HAS BEEN REPRINTED CALLED THE MESSIAH CODE - jumping on a band wagon much??
