Until You, 12 Dec 2000
This was the first book I read by Ms. McNaught, and I absolutely adored it- so much in fact, that I ran out to buy the other books in the "series" (Whitney, My Love; Almost Heaven; A Kingdom of Dreams; Something Wonderful and Once an Always). Sheridan Bromely, an American, is a companion to a wealthy debutante who is going to England to meet her husband. The debutante, however, elopes with man she meets on the ship, leaving Sheridan to explain to her betrothed. Stephen, accidentally, runs over the husband-to-be, and decides to meet Charise, the debutante at the boat to explain the situation. Unfortunately, before they can extricate themselves from their situations, Sheridan is knocked unconsious by a box falling on the peer. Stephen, feeling extremely guilty now, takes her home to his house. When Sheridan awakes she finds that she has amnesia and no recollection of who she is. The way they fall in love is so sweet, Sheridan is spunky and not like every other heroine in historical romances, or maybe she is, but the story is just written well... ;) Stephen is also a good character. My favorite part, a little preverse I'll admit, is when at the party organized to get Stephen and Sheridan back together where Sheridan leaves him. She is filled with emotion. I recommend this book totally wihout reserve, but I would steer clear of modern romances by Ms. McNaught because they tend to be nowhere near as good as her historical romances.
