Product Description

Product Description

A nameless social worker in the middle of a career crisis travels to Peru to find an ancient prophetic manuscript which the Peruvian government and Roman Catholic Church seek to suppress and destroy.

From the Back Cover

The Celestine Prophecy contains secrets that are currently changing our world. Drawing on the ancient wisdom found in a Peruvian manuscript, it tells you how to make connections between the events happening in your own life right now...and lets you see what is going to happen to you in the years to come.

A book that has passed from hand to hand, from friend to friend, since it first appeared in small bookshops across America, The Celestine Prophecy is a work that has come to light at a time when the world deeply needs to hear its words. The story it tells is a gripping one of adventure and discovery that will carry you high into the Andes mountains, but it is also a guidebook that has the power to crystalize your perceptions of why you are where you are in life...and to direct your steps with a new energy and optimism as you head into tomorrow.

A book that comes along just once in a lifetime to change lives forever.

Jesse Corti, whose film credits include Beauty and the Beast and Revenge, has also appeared on the television series, Law and Order, Another World and Guiding Light. Corti also acts on and off Broadway.

Abridged, running time approximately 3 hours

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the book I said, no he replied., 18 Jul 2000
Having read the book, which I found very absorbing, I wanted a chance to reflect on the lessons discussed. I could have done this by re-reading the book, joining a discussion group or, so I thought, by listening to the tape. I could do this with a friend and we could discuss various points as they arose.

However, the monologue, monotone narration with quirky American accents was too distracting. (Being an American myself you would think that I was used to the accent, but not this one).

My main criticism is that the book was not adapted for audio in anyway whatsoever. There were no significant changes in voice intonation and no atmospheric sound effects. Also the narrator kept having to say 'I said' and 'he replied' so that that listener knew who was saying what. This is a bit like 'canned laughter' in that if it is appropriately used it adds to the atmosphere, but if you are conscience of it then its gone wrong.

My only other criticism is that several important sections from the book were completely missed out on the tape. Maybe they were short for space but having read the book the omissions were glaringly obvious.

My advise to anyone considering this would be to read the book. The book rates a good 4.5 stars in my estimation, the tape only a poor 2.

1.0 out of 5 stars Read the book? Never........................, 9 Nov 2008

This is the dullest audio book I have ever listened to in my life. I was recommended to read the book as an "insight in to myself". Leading a very busy life thought I would buy it on tape and listen to it in the car. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz dull does not begin to describe the content of the 'Adventure' and the readers voice beggars belief in its monotone, lifeless, monotony, dreary, flat insipidness. I can't bring myself to listen to the second tape I have popped it in the Oxfam bag for some other poor unsuspecting soul. Whether it's true and the book is far superior I will never know as I have absolutely no intention of submitting myself to such unmitigating boredom ever again.
