Product Description

Product Description

The little cat Deric Longden saw sitting forlornly on an upturned bucket belonged to the neighbours, but somehow when it began to rain it seemed only natural to bring him inside. Once there, he slipped so easily into Deric and Aileen's lives that there was an unspoken agreement that he had found his real home. Little did he know that he had entered the Longden world, in which the unexpected (almost) always happens...Aileen being Aileen, it was probably inevitable that sooner or later the kitten would be trapped in the refrigerator. And Deric being Deric, the obvious way to thaw him back to life was to make a little coat for him out of a shrunken thermal vest. Thus the cat who came in from the cold got his name - Thermal - and joined the wonderful cast of characters in the ongoing Longden saga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!!!!!, 2 Mar 2004
By A Customer
I first found out about this book when I met someone reading it on a train - being a cat lover I was attracted by the cat on the cover. She told me all about the wonderful way of telling a story the author has, and how wonderful was the interaction between him and Thermal (the cat in the story - read it and you'll find out why he's called Thermal!) I immediately bought the book and have been wanting to thank the woman on the train ever since. This book is so funny and so heart warming you'll keep going back to it time and again, as I have. You'll cry with laughter and then some - this is one book you'll never regret buying. I have since gone on to collect more books by Deric but this is my favourite.

5.0 out of 5 stars How does Deric do it?, 27 Jul 2000
By A Customer
I have been a big fan of Deric's for ages, this is the first book of his I read, and it prompted me to go out and buy all his others. Reading a Deric Longden book is like reading a long letter from an old friend. He has a skill in turning inanimate objects into stars (ie the one legged fairy, Ralph the Sultana) and of giving cats the respectful personality they so rightly deserve. He writes everything in all his books with such compassion and empathy that we see things from a sometimes unique prospective. Just look at Thermal's escapade with the sheepskin rug, and his reaction to something as simple as a dying moth in the garden. My favourite part is the Damson Wine escapade, I mean, someone must have moved the skirting board! Read and enjoy, but make sure you have a spare afternoon, because once you start, you won't put it down until it's finished.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cat that came in from the cold., 14 Jul 2003
By A Customer
This has got to be the best book I have ever read and re-read and re-read and re-read and giggled and cried with laughter all at the same time! Unless you have read any of Deric Longdens other books you cannot appreciate what a wonderful writer he is. If only this book could be made into a tv series too, it would be brilliant! Take care!!! Not to be read in public unless you share the reason you're laughing and crying with your fellow humans!!!!! A must for cat lovers everywhere.
