Product Description

From the Back Cover
It is now over thirty years since the present wave of conflict in Northern Ireland began and since the birth of the Provisional IRA. In spite of the huge loss of life and the very considerable political upheaval it has caused, very little is known about the organization.

The Provisional IRA is the first full-length study to be undertaken since the Troubles began in 1969 and it is an authoritative examination of the objectives, structure and leaders of the IRA. It draws on long and unusually frank interviews with IRA activists and is an invaluable and fascinating account.

5.0 out of 5 stars Topical, 18 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This book remains as fresh as the day it was written. I read it recently and everything in it stands true. Mr. Bishop and his colleague describe the history and ethos of the IRA in a manner which propels the reader to the conclusion that they will not give up until they achieve a united Ireland. Mr. Bishop and his colleague do not pull their punches and avoid taking sides and politicians who wish to settle this problem should first read this volume. It makes grim but engrossing reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant, 6 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This book is already a classic. It is a brilliant insight into Irish republicanism. Any politician who wishes to negotiate with the IRA should be compelled to read this book, again and again. Mr. Bishop, a distinguished war correspondent and author, provides the erudition and the elegant prose; his colleague, a radio reporter in Belfast, offers gritty reportage. Together they are a formidable team.
