Product Description

Product Description

Doona was a jewel of a planet -- a pastoral paradise with rivers, lakes, mountains and seas. The Hrrubans needed it to revitalise their decadent race, to give it back something of the old pioneering spirit. The Terrans needed it as an overspill from the hysterical crowding of Earth, a place to breathe and move without restrictions. So they both sent a colonising party -- and they both began to think of Doona as Home. And then one day the smooth-skinned, two-legged mammal known as Man came face to face with the furry, four-pawed mammal known as Hrruban...

5.0 out of 5 stars Any parent or 'difficult child' will love this book!, 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I don't know if she intended to, but Anne McCaffrey has written one of the few sympathetic fiction books about ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivty Disorder) while producing a fast paced story and tight well thought out plot.

As always her characters are well observed, and Todd (anyone with any experience of ADHD will recognise this loveable scamp) is particularly heart wrenching.

As always there is a fair amount of food description -( never read McCaffrey of you are on a diet, it's fatal!), and as always - we have exotic life-forms.

But this time the exotics are as important as the humanoids - and as the book unfolds you get more and more involved. I was sorry when the book ended - always a good sign!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good concept and most enjoyable to read, 19 Jan 2004

(REAL NAME)
I've read a lot of Anne McCaffrey books and one of her strengths is the ability to make you passionately care for her characters. She succeeds again in Decision at Doona with little Zodd and Hrris. The giant departments and the internecine bickering between them is well done and her picture of future living with the 'square mile' of open space is positively horrific.

The move back to an agricultural/self-sufficient technology from a heavily technological future is a theme repeated in a number of her works and again pays dividends for her. A very nice standalone book though I understand she has recently written a follow up. Good news!

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable as always, 24 Oct 2003
By Laura Hogan (Edinburgh,) - See all my reviews
Anne Mcaffreys books are always easy reading and Ive enjoyed them since I was in my early teens. Maybe thats why, coming to Decision at Doona in my late 20s I felt like I was reading a kids book, almot cartoon like in some scenes, It lacks the originality of the early Pern books but is still good fun.
