5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best things ever done for the Christian church, 23 Jan 2003
By A Customer
Supposing you're a life-long, faithful Christian who is finding just being faithful to family, friends, church, vocation and beliefs just too difficult. What do you do? You can't give up, even if you're tempted to, because all of this is far too important just to drop it all and run. Adrian Plass was in exactly that situation, and his solution was to write quite possibly the funniest book ever written about the trials and tribulations of being a Christian in the modern world. Just because it's hilarious doesn't mean that it's shallow, either: Mr Plass has a genius for using humour to expose the raw edges of life, the things we'd all prefer not to have to think about - the hurts, the hypocrisy, the depression, the sad things that happen - and somehow to make them better, to make some sense of them. If you're discouraged this book - and its two equally effective sequels - really are the ultimate pick-me-up; and if you're not, they'll warm your heart at the same time as really getting you thinking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Therapy from Christianity's finest purveyor of silly stuff, 9 Jul 2004
By amboline (York, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This book is a work of genius because it digs out all the silly, crazy, foolish things that Christians get up to and brings them into the light of day by making you laugh. A lot. Absolutely the best therapy for anyone who's ever felt let down by their church and needs to be reminded of its humanity, and of the presence of God there despite the things we do to mess it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking and oh, so accurate................, 8 Dec 2003
By A Customer
The sacred diary of Adrian Plass made me feel as though I was not alone in my viewpoint on the dinosaur attitudes of some members of the Church of England!! He describes sermons in terms of 'how many fruit gums will I need to suck to get through the boredom!!'
It is hilarious, touching and very thought provoking. A must for anyone who although they are a firm believer, has sat in church and thought 'what the heck am I doing here??'
