3.0 out of 5 stars lots of words but let down by the lists, 9 Mar 2004
The Chambers Thesaurus is described as "The ideal Companion to the Chambers Dictionary". I am very pleased with my Chambers Dictionary and it is really very good for Crossword solving so I had high expectations for this thesaurus. I soon came across the the one big flaw with this book. It is the lists. They are arranged one after another - rather than in columns - and not in alphabetical order. It is also not helped by the grey background to the lists. This makes trying to search for a specific word very difficult. Example finding a fruit with letters b?????c?????? is much harder than it should be. The word blackcurrent is there but right at the very end.

If you want a general purpose thesaurus to look up synonyms this is fine as the number of words is excellent. For Crossword solvers the arrangement of the lists let it down.

You are not going to buy a thesarus very often and for a few pounds more I
would recommend the Oxford Thesaurus which has far more words and very
comprehensive alphabetically sorted and tabled lists.
