Review
From reviews of Essential Psychopharmacology: The Prescriber’s Guide (the parent volume) ‘ … instead of a laundry list, Dr Stahl presents what the clinician ought to be looking for - this is not your father’s PDR (Physician’s Desk Reference)! The clinical tips and pearls that are found in each entry are invaluable - not only are dosing guidelines provided, but also the author’s educated and respected opinion regarding potential advantages and disadvantages of each drug. … a real bargain … The book’s major strength is its readability and user friendliness. The art of psychopharmacology is finally given the space it deserves … This guidebook is an excellent source of information for the art of prescribing psychotropic medications and belongs in every clinician’s library.’ The Annals of Pharmacotherapy

‘I think that this manual has all the characteristics of a true bestseller. The format is very attractive, the information is complete, the consultation is easy. In no other recent text will a clinican find so much information in such a concise and user-friendly format.’ Acta Psychiatrica Scandiavica

‘I recommend the Guide as an excellent and easy-to-read reference for practitioners who may be seeking an improved comfort zone with psychotropic drugs.’ Canadian Journal of Psychiatry

Product Description
In response to the rapid developments in psychopharmacology, this is a spin-off from Stephen Stahl's new, completely revised and updated edition of his much acclaimed Prescriber's Guide. This is a pragmatic, easy-to-use formulary for prescribing clinicians, covering the most important drugs in use today for depression. From a review of the first Prescriber's Guide: ‘ … The clinical tips and pearls that are found in each entry are invaluable - not only are dosing guidelines provided, but also the author's educated and respected opinion regarding potential advantages and disadvantages of each drug. The book's major strength is its readability and user friendliness. The art of psychopharmacology is finally given the space it deserves. 0133 This guidebook is an excellent source of information for the art of prescribing psychotropic medications and belongs in every clinician's library.’ The Annals of Pharmacotherapy

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book, 4 Jan 2009
By Robert Marchl "psychdoc" (Frankfurt, Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a consultant level psychiatrist I already own a bevy of books covering various aspects of Psychopharmacology - none however as comprehensive, clever, believable and practical as Stahl's book. It beats all german drug reference books (compact or otherwise) hands down, and I have seriously considered approaching the author concerning translating it into german. This is the one book I have close to hand every day - if you want a brilliantly compact and yet comprehensive psychiatric drug reference, then this is the book you have to buy!
