Product Description

Cognitive behaviour therapy is a relatively new treatment approach which has been demonstrated to be the most effective form of treatment for many childhood disorders. This volume uniquely provides a comprehensive account of cognitive behavioural approaches to psychological problems in children, adolescents and their families. The text is structured developmentally passing from preschool through to adolescence. Each author focuses on a specific disorder and provides a rationale for treatment before proceeding to describe assessment and therapy illustrated by detailed case examples. The context of multimodal therapy is also highlighted along with visions for the scope of future research. 5.0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction to CBT with youngsters., 5 April 2001
The book gives the reader a overview to the field CBT (modified?) with children and adolescents, and their caregivers.By likning developmental and emotional issues to CBT, the CBT does not become a so called "how to bake a cake", concerning the debate "cost-benefit", and due to CBT critisism. From that point of view, the boook is not only for those who takes an interest in CBT, but for all who work with young people and their families. Each chapter gives an insight to different issues(problems),from pre-school children, thoes who deal with children, mid-school children and issues concerning adolescents. (What I may miss in this book, is more about adolescents, and the link to developmental issues). Part from a theoretical contribution, the book also gives ideas of interventions and different techniques. Another book I wold like to mention, is by the author of this book chapter 1, Tammie Ronen. Her book "Cognitive-developmental therapy with children", is a book that I wold recommend strongly, specially conserning the importens of having the developmental elements in mind - in all work with young people, both understanding troubled youngsters, and conscerning therapeutic interventions.
