5.0 out of 5 stars not up to laurell's standard, 16 Nov 2009

If you want to buy this just for the Laurell K Hamilton story don't bother. Her story 'He can bake a cherry pie' is just 36 pages of nothing overly interesting and it gives me a feeling I have read it before or something very like it.
She is the main reason I ordered it and was very disappointed until I got into the other 3 stories in this book which are first rate. I had never heard of any of them but will now look out for other titles by these authors.
I don't like to read a review with all details revealed so I will just say, You have selkies, haunted forests, magic and strange man with each finishing in the arms of the man of their dreams even when they didn't start out that way.
Just a warning Laurell K Hamilton's books are mostly X rated but you have no fear with this one as there isn't even much kissing but I loved it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Paperback Pleasures?, 24 Dec 2009
While most folks will be buying this for Laurell K Hamilton's name on the cover, be advised that as well as being the shortest story in the bunch, it's also a bit tame. Without her trademark sex and violence it's a childrens story for the non-feminists. By far the better works are Sharon Shin's Wrong Bride Groom and Liu's Tangleroot Palace which shine for their writing as well as their story. However, the whole collection is a very lightweight read which will quickly be forgotten. Not a bad book, but could have been so much better and will not do much to make publishers pick up short story collections, or win fans for the authors in this particular volume.
