The title and blurb for this nearly made me miss out on a treat - this is not chicklit or shopping & chatter, our lead character Samantha is actually pretty sane and sensible, she just happens to have been caught in a perfect, Stepford Wives trap made by shapeshifters, and only realises something isn't right when her milkman mutters enough questions to break some of the magic and let her begin to look for the truth. This is just the start of a whirlwhind journey meeting the Kin, learning about a parallel dimension (whose teen dropouts spend an awful lot of time hanging out in California's hottest resorts), tracking down the people who trapped her, oh and of course, falling in love. Yes, there's romance but the backstory of the Kin and the way their powers work makes this a good, meaty read amidst the fun and fluff, great dramatic sequences that create fab mental imagery too. I was delighted despite myself and am really looking forward to the sequel. Perfect summer reading (or good for a rainy day stuck inside!).

I got into this book really quickly, then lost a bit of interest in the middle. It is worth a read, but not the best book in the world. Maybe the 2nd book in this series is better?
