Product Description

Product Description

The Valley of the Kings is famous throughout the world as the burial place of the great New Kingdom pharaohs. Many of the royal tombs contain astonishing wall paintings of the king with various gods and goddesses, as well as papyri, mummies, decorated coffins and other artifacts. Here now is the first ever book to reproduce the wall paintings and murals in full. Beautifully illustrated in colour throughout, this volume allows the reader to join the pharaohs of the New Kingdom on their journey to immortality.

About the Author

Zahi Hawass is General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Egypt. He has written scores of books on the archaeology of ancient Egypt, including his memoir Secrets in the Sand, also published by Thames & Hudson.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent work!, 10 Dec 2006
By R. Loft "Rosemarie" - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Having a large collection of books on Egypt, I decided to give this one a go without seeing it. I'm glad I did! It is an amazing book for its price; the graphics and photography are clear, the preproductions of the wall paintings spectacular - at least one folding out from five full pages. The illustrations are arranged to tell the story of the journey of the dead, rather than by tomb (which may make some searches a little harder if you are after an illustration from, say, from the tomb of Seti I, but this is a minor issue. All in all, excellent value for money.
