Product Description

Product Description
Mozart lived for just 35 years - years in which he knew great joy and great sorrow, and composed music that was to enrich the lives of millions yet unborn. An infant prodigy, he wrote his first minuet at the age of six, his first opera at eleven. He died on December 1791 with "The Magic Flute" completed just a few months earlier, the "Requiem" still unfinished; and his story has become a legend. Popular myth represented him as a simple-minded youth with a miraculous musical gift: the truth is far more complicated and exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars An informative, enjoyable read, 13 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This book was great! There were a lot of colourful, interesting photos and portraits from Mozart's time and there was also so much interesting and relavent information on Mozart himself~ My favorite feature in the book is the summaries of Mozart's major operas and there are even a few photos from the film "Amadeus"! Yep, this is a recommended read for any Mozart fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little gem.Perfect for a short in depth read., 10 Jan 2005
By Prof Harvey Crichton (Gloucester, Oxford, London, England) - See all my reviews
My first book I ever read on Mozart. Gives one a real feel for the time.I.e. the book takes you to the time with the power of the photographs. I hope the last reviewer meant that a few photographs from the film Amadeus meant that it was a new book and not that he is a fan trying to compare a film of a play with the real Mozart?? Anyway... This book is highly informtaive, a joy to read, with a great appendix at the back with letters and his life history with great photographs, pictures, diagrams throughout Well written. And you definately come away with a sense of the real Mozart. On subsequent readings this is still a very nice, glossy and erudite REAL and PROPER introduction which is for adults and children alike I would say. Best for it`s short summaries and appendix and photographs and fact it is short and to the point with writing...A very well edited overview in my cae which anyone would like....A colourful , short, well written book that you can get through in an hour or two as opposed to a large serious in depth too much information read. This is nice size, right condensed facts and edited well and all you needed to know really with some interesting facts as to what his REAL name was and why he chose his middle name as Amadeus! Few of us know this it seems. ALl true. I cannot think of a single factual error with this book either after further reading. A real gem actually. The Beethoven book in the same serious is also Excellent..The Composer as Hero. As for the others I don`t know But both this one and the Beethoven books in series are really quite special and worth buying as introductions, first books and by serious fans and admirers..Perfect for kids over 11 or adults not wanting to read large 500page opus books. All the basics are here, informed and you are guided through it all nicely. A nice book. Should be on more book shelves. it is a well researched easy to read informative book. Does what it sets out to do perfectly. Hance the 5 stars. A Special little book really. I don`t re-edit. But 6 oiut of 10 positive reviews is not good enough. perhaps I did not put it in context enough. If you really want to know about Mozart, read Alfred Einstein`s book listening all ..If you want a short , well documented book..with Mozart as hero and good documents amd letters and all in apocket sized book then this is the best book you can find in this market. It is very well produced and colourful and modern and enough to interest any teenager. Very easy going but non the less in quality or interest for that. A genuinely wel poduced enjoyable well made well researched book. Enough what everyone should know and ought to know about Mozart as a colourful introduction and sign of the times. That`s it.It is not a scholar`s text book.It says nothing about the real Mozart more than any of the other biographies at all. Odd name. The Beethiven one in the series is called Beethoven The Composer as hero.Which is equally as good. Great books ..and I am glad they ar ein my collection. First for my kids when they are old enough after the Ladybird intriductions a decade later I would say... But also a great adult book...The pictures and decor of the book is great. I have MANY Mozart books and this book has it`s place on the adult shelves with the others. It is a 5. As it is the ebst little kind of book with pictures on Mozart I know of.
