Product Description

Product Description

This lavishly illustrated, accessible survey presents the work of over seventy international artists at the forefront of the boom in photography (e.g. Gursky, Sherman, Calle, Parr, and Barney). Introductions to each section outline the âgenresâ and how themes and how issues like memory, time, objectivity, politics, identity and the everyday are tied to certain approaches. Each photographerâs work is then presented in sequence, with commentaries by the author highlighting the artâs most important aspects.

About the Author

Susan Bright is an independent writer, lecturer and curator. A former curator of photographs at the National Portrait Gallery and Director of the Association of Photographers Gallery, she has also been an Associate Lecturer in Photographic History and Theory at the London College of Communication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated and of a very high quality., 21 Aug 2006
By Mr. J. A. Holmes "jacko141" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is beautifully illustrated and has an excellent range of photographers and genres of photography. A good book for discovering the less talked-about photographers who deserve to be more well known. It's very nicely presented and a must-buy for anyone who has even a slight interest in art photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for - art photography now!, 4 May 2006
By Jee Sun Park "sunshine" (london) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The book is divided into themes, such as The City, Portraiture,
etc.

It provides a great intro to all sections, notes on a body of
work that is current for each of the photographers she has
chosen in each section, and the reproductions are amazing.
Each photographer has a quote that is especially well chosen
to depict their body or work, or that reveals about them as a photographer/artist.
