Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
Thankfully hotels no longer attempt to look like offices with each one looking exactly the same as the next. Herbert Ypma, founder of the award-winning magazine Interior Architecture, has scouted around the world to find some of the most individual hotels. "Travel, even business travel, can still be an adventure," he writes in the introduction. "A Hip Hotel can turn a boring business jaunt into a stylish and stimulating experience." Ypma's book Hip Hotels: City--the first in a series of books on hotels--is a guidebook as well as a record of the work of some of the world's most famous designers: Terence Conran in Vienna, Anouska Hempel in London, Christian Liaigre in New York, Philippe Starck in Hong Kong, Edward Tuttle in Bangkok. Ypma has used more than 600 photographs rather than words to show the splendours of the hotels he chose. After all, words like "charming" and "beautiful" mean different things to different people. Hip Hotels can be read like a decor magazine--you keep it next to your bed and read a chapter or two when you feel like inspiration for decorating your own home. For those who are lucky enough to stay at these Hip Hotels, it's a useful guide when making travel arrangements. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Synopsis
Hip Hotels: City didn't just identify a trend, it led it. This revised edition reflects that, introducing around a dozen stunning new hotels (all of which have opened since first publication) and at least three new city destinations (Delhi, Marrakesh and Tokyo). New hotels include One Aldwych, a superb example of the new contemporary luxury; The Manor, Delhi, an amazing piece of fifties modern architecture originally built as a hunting lodge; Blakes, Amsterdam, Anouska Hempel's latest venture that brings her Asian-inflected minimalism to a superb piece of Golden Age Dutch architecture; and The Establishment in the heart of Sydney, which houses not just a hotel but the city's hottest bar, nightclub, restaurant and sushi bar, taking the hotel-as-destination concept to a whole new level. The book also has a new updated cover and a new contents spread.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the traveller who appreciates quality and elegance, 24 Feb 2000
I stayed in three of the 24 hotels featured in this book (Antwerp-London-New York) ; each time it was an extremely enjoyable experience. The book presents a selection of exquisite hotels that you can select blindly. I use the book as a guideline for selecting a hotel on the next business or private trip. Also if you're into interior decoration the book is a pleasure to glance through because of the nice pictures. I've experienced that the commentary is well written and most importantly reflects the atmosphere and ammenities of the hotels correctly.

Name a major city in the world, forget the cliche of the bboring chocolate on the pillow, enjoy the real pleasure of travel by discovering the true HIP secrets of a given city. The text was very well written and told me the secret shpping treasures of Milan or the great hideaways of Paris with always a funny twist.
