For anyone wishing to get a quick handle on the period or seek immediate illustrative reference this is the ideal book. It is very well written and deep enough to be useful for serious research. I found the layout really helpful, which examines interiors and exteriors as a whole and accompanied by detailed views. It is also a handy size which is a small point but important when you are doing research on the move. In summary, this book really did the job for me.

The book illustrates the overall view of what Arts and Crafts looks like visually. There is an introduction of 5 pages in texts, which just gives you a flavour of the background of the movement. The rest looks a bit like DK Eyewitness Travel Guides; lots of floating photos with the texts of large fonts with bold styling on important terms. Some who want to read as an extensive introduction guide may find it patronizing. I bought this hoping to learn one or some of the following: the origin of the movement, why certain artists are considered as a part of the movement, the description of the movements in different countries, the taxonomy of the arts and Crafts styles, and the outcome after the movement. Unfortunately, I did not get the sense of learning as much on any items listed above. However, if you are looking for an easy reading material just to grasp the sense of the Arts and Crafts style, here is a perfect book for you.
