Synopsis
Taking advantage of the CD-ROM medium, this resource contains over 3500 images together with 2500 biographies and dictionary entries covering the field of 20th-century art. The interface allows the pictures to be viewed at full-screen size and many in close-up detail. Many videos and audios of artist's voices bring the works and their creators alive, and the user can choose to watch a slide show of all the illustrations by date, from Bonnard to Rachel Whiteread, or at random or entry by entry. There are full hypertext searching and cross-referencing capabilities, and the powerful word search enables the user to find every mention of a word in the dictionary. The user is able to create "albums" of texts or images, and to see works in context by juxtaposing pictures of different periods or influences, and the notebook can by used to edit or add to texts or captions. The CD-ROM is available for Macintosh and Multimedia PCs.
