Product Description

Product Description

The almost spiritual relationship between the Arab and his horse and the long-standing fascination the world over for this purest-bred of all animals who serve humanity lie at the core of this work. Tracing the history of the Arabian (or Arab) horse from before the time of King Solomon to the present day, the text by Peter Upton - author, artist and internationally recognized expert on the subject - explains the true origins of the breed and its role in Arab history. At the heart of the book are photographs of the horses themselves, arranged by geographical area. A comprehensive list of Arab horse organizations, registries and societies and a glossary of Arabic terms are included.

5.0 out of 5 stars A journey through paradise, 9 Aug 2003

With gorgeous artwork, photography and writing, this book is any arabian horse afficionado's creme de menthe. Some of the stallion lines are a bit dated but that said it is an invaluable guide to the history, evolution and absolute magic of the Arab horse, covering its long association with man from the wild horses of the Beduoin desert to modern day showing and racing. It is one of those books that you can sit back and drown luxuriously in for a day.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Arabian Horse, 24 Mar 2002
By louise bossence (Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews
This book would appeal to any lover of horses but especially to fans of the arab breed. Beautiful photographs that capture the spirit and fire as well as the gentle nature of arabian horses. The first section describes the history of the oldest and purest of horse breeds. The Bedouins prefered the arab mare when he went into battle because he could trust her to keep quiet! A very early form of girl power?
