3.0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction but no more than that, 29 Jul 2003
Quite a good introductory selection in its field, this one, and consider the friend's price... Strikingly, the selection has inspired itself to a large extent on the poems by Edward Thomas, Robert Graves and Thomas Hardy, though the latter was not exactly a war poet. A flaw about this selection is in that the contribution of women authors (and their poems) is limited to just two. But again, consider the price, and one can't do wrong in buying this.

4.0 out of 5 stars good but no women, 14 Nov 2001
A good - and very cheap - collection of British World War I poets. The introductions could have been more detailed - but I guess...(that at the price)...you can't expect too much. What disturbs me more is that just one woman has been included. The editor disregarded a lot of interesting poems which deal with female war experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars War, uh-huh; what is it good for?
As others have said, this text is far from comprehensive, and contains quite a narrow selection of war poems. Read more
