3.0 out of 5 stars Only OK but worth a look for amateurs, 24 April 2003

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
The tricks in this book are pretty basic as mentalism goes. Mentalism generally relies on people peeking what has been written/drawn, having multiple get-outs or reducing the choice and this book covers most of those methods pretty well. I'd say most of them are more puzzlers than potential evidence of something psychic. Maybe that's because I'm well versed in magic. It would certainly be a good starting point for someone new to mental magic.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not great, 20 Mar 2002
By A Customer
There is nothing that really stands out about this book, there are some good tricks, but there are alot of dire ones. An example of one of the more imaginative tricks is, you claim you can read peoples minds, when in actual fact you leave the room and peep through the key hole to see what happens when you are not there.

Written and published in the seventies, so more local cabaret club (or Paul Daniels) rather than David Blane (or Derren Brown)

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money for one effect alone, 3 Aug 2002
By A Customer
The comments about this book by other reviewers are not entirely deserved in my opinion... Most professional works (generally available only from magical dealers) cost many times the cost of this volume - and contain only a fraction of the effects. Besides, the important thing in a book on magic is the IDEA for an effect - which the performer then colours with his or her own personal style and themed setting. For me, the price of this book was redeemed by one effect alone (a visible mind-over-matter effect with a watch) worth TEN TIMES the cost of this whole book. No magic book is perfect - and this work is no exception. But look at the price you are paying for numerous top-class effects! One excellent effect alone at that price is worth the price of the book. Some people just moan about everything - what was the saying about looking a gift horse in the mouth???
