4.0 out of 5 stars Great content, horribly printed pages, 21 Jun 2000
By A Customer
The Zurich Tournament was undoubtedly one of the great tournaments in chess history and this book is a wonderful detailing of the games. The annotations explain the ideas behind the openings, the important moves and gives key variations when necessary. My only problem is with the printing - the cover looks great but upon opening the book you discover horrible grey paper with a typewriter font. Why not update it with modern algabraic notation, better diagrams and a better font? The content is worth 5 stars, the presentation is worth 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on chess ever written., 25 April 1998
By A Customer
Delightful tournament book. Besides the fact that the general quality of the games was great, the commentary was even better! Pages of explanations of the plans involved (no Hubner-like bushes of variations, but plain English (sorry: Russian ..), deep insights in the actaul ideas behind the openings and games in general) and interesting details about the players.

An immortal book. By an immortal man ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bronstein's admissions, 1 Feb 1998
By A Customer
Many chess authorities consider this the best tournament book of all and they may be right. Bronstein, however, when asked about it noted that while he was responsible for the analysis, the text was largely written by someone named Vainstein. Mentioning that his feelings toward the Zurich tournament were mostly negative, he gave the impression that his estimate of the merits of this book were not quite so high as that of the reviewers. While it's comforting to see that this title remains readily available, I'd like to see it joined by Alekhine's efforts and Hastings 1895 perhaps.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the great tournament books of all time.
Bronstein is, with Alekhine, one of the great annotators.
