1.0 out of 5 stars Not a complete book., 3 Aug 2007
Its suprising to see so many here praising this version of Abramelins rite since it is not only uncomplete but Mathers also deliberatly skipped certain parts he considerd to dangerous for others to know about. In Mathers version of the rite it takes about 6-8 months to finnish it but the original takes about 18 months to finnish. This is just one example of many of how Mathers and Crowley thrue the use of Golden Dawn led astray people from the true path of magic and led the way to the new age way of magic.

Fortunatly there are others who also translate old books and take it much more seriously. So if you want the complete version of this book I would suggest you buy this one instead "The Book of Abramelin by Abraham Von Worms" "ISBN-10: 089254127X".

4.0 out of 5 stars A look at the magical past, 13 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This work was central to both the Golden Dawn and Crowley's A.'.A.'., in many ways it is out dated. What worked in the Middle Ages or Victorian England may not work for us in the world today. For people interested in finding a framework to create their own approach, this is an excellent source for structure.

The system presented here marks one of the major changes in the post-Christian European magical tradition, moving it from a simple level of sorcery and placing it on par with Yoga as a means for spiritual progress. Not for the light-hearted occultnik, it is an extensive set of workings.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is IT, 3 Feb 2003
This is IT.
The most potent system for spiritual evolution available to the western mind. Its potency lies in its simplicity. Weather the concepts are regarded as subjective or objective this six month ritual works.
It concerns a long period of focusing the Will and Imagination to culminate in the divine union with your "Holy Gaurdian Angel". Please be warned, this book is NOT for beginners. Failure in completion of the ritual successfuly can results in devastating consequenses, with macrocosmic tidal waves. I highly recommend reading as many books as you can lay your hands on before even going near "Abramelin" but especially Dion Fortunes "Mystical Qabbalah" followed by Israel Regardies "Tree of Life", these books read and understood with give a very solid grounding to build upon. Please, please look before you leap.
