I enjoyed reading this book and would reommend it to anyone who wants info. on either Richard Wagner or Tristan und Isolde.it was pleasant reading and I hope you enjoy it too.

(Before I begin, the previous review I find confusing. This is not a book, but rather a score, with little "information" on either the opera or on Wagner, other than markings indicated in the score.)

The score is comprehensive, and thorough - including, as well as Wagner's notation, staging instructions which were added by Felix Mottl (for whom Tristan was his final operatic conducting venture). Unfortunately, this edition is the most easily obtainable, and cheapest of those on the market. It is, however, lacking. It is firstly terribly difficult to follow (at least for the point of view of rehearsal), because it lacks any bar numbers or rehearsal markings - and marking those in manually is a very laborious and unrewarding process. In addition, the position of instrument staves on the system is sometimes inconsistent - they occasionally jump around - making it harder to follow still. Given the scale of the opera, for the score to be useful or informative, a lot of effort and attention need to be paid to it in any case, so these problems may seem minor in the long run, but it is still unfortunate that such a mammoth publication be marred by these failings.
