5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Companion!, 26 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I first came across this book when I was eight years old and have been reading it since,(this is not the sort of book you can truly appreciate if you read it in one go). This is a well established and organised puzzle book written by the famous victorian puzzler Henry Ernest Dudney. The book is arranged into different types of puzzles e.g Arithmatic, Geometric, Chess, Misc..etc. Each of the puzzles are written as a story or a riddle.Dudney presents each puzzle to the reader as a challenge and dares you to solve them, he also provides the solutions in an easy to understand and enlightening format. This book makes an excellant read on long journeys. If there has to be a downside it is that this book was written for a Victorian reader and this means you have to keep checking currency and measure differences, (Oh! and the rules of cricket esp. if you are American). But Dudney explains everything you need to know (even the rules of Cricket). This classic puzzle book is one you will come back to time and time again,I do.
