From the Author
Rationale
Reluctantly I have decided to make some comments about my book, and perhaps to help you decide whether or not my book is suitable for you. First of all, the dictionary is factually accurate of course, and is the result of many years of research and writing about multimedia and the Internet. Basically it is a rather slim volume that seeks to cover multimedia and the Internet in terms of their most important elements that are in the foreground of users' and developers' minds. The entries vary enormously in length, and some are short essays like those about Chat, 3-D, IP addressing, Visual Basic, JavaScript, Java, VBScript, C++, and Perl. The language entries have short overviews of the language specifications in terms of programming with them, so you won't find anything as ignorant as C++ "is a high level programming language". Similarly you wouldn't find something like LED "is a light source" because technical explanations are provided. Having said that the descent to technical detail is gradual, so if you just want to know what something basically is, you need only read the first couple of lines of the definition. I hope that this helps you when making a decision as to whether or not my book is for you.
