Book Description
Due to growing pressures from health service managers and insurance companies, brief therapy is fast becoming the largest body of analytic treatment provided. This timely book demonstrates how to conduct brief therapy periods effectively through a careful blending of group counseling and individual counseling. The authors show how to build a model of the client's problems for use in group contexts. Blended interventions are shown in action in treating post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and panic disorder.
Synopsis
This volume focuses on concepts and methods of psychotherapy and counselling which can be used in a limited number of sessions with clients, usually numbering less than a dozen. The book combines group counselling with brief therapy methods. The reader is shown how to build a model of the client's problems and then utilize this knowledge in the context of a group. This is followed by a presentation of group programmes for post-traumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, and panic disorder. The major features of the programme are highlighted using transcripts from actual group sessions. The authors then review the evidence and discuss ways in which counsellors can assess and develop their competence.
