I have mixed views on this book. When it comes to the actual typography, Strizver barely puts a foot wrong. But the whole book seems very lightweight, barely skimming over the surface of the subject. It's a reasonable overview, for someone not well versed in typography, but if that was her aim, then better defining typographical terms would have been a good idea near the start of the book. My main gripe, though, is that many of the technical details are either heavily biased towards using particular programs on a Mac, or in some cases, just plain wrong. Not a bad book, by any means, but there are far better available, such as Robert Bringhurt's "The elements of typographical style".
