From the Inside Flap

Dramatic changes in the foreign exchange and money markets have considerably altered the way international business will be conducted in the new millennium. The advent of the Euro, the enormous growth of the swaps market, and the daily increase in the development of derivative instruments are at the forefront of this evolution. If you′re an investor, corporate finance officer, or anyone seeking to gain the essential edge in the world′s major financial markets, resources for sound, accessible, and timely information are more important than ever. This updated, totally revised, and expanded edition of finance expert Julian Walmsley′s popular classic is the one book you′ll need. Practical and easy–to–understand, this unique reference provides guidance on every important market around the world, including closely related money markets such as the commercial paper and Eurocommercial paper markets, national money markets, interest rate options markets, and numerous related instruments. You will also find state–of–the–art sections on:
∗ The Euro
∗ Swaps–the instrument with the fastest growing market of all time
∗ Money market calculations
∗ Foreign exchange calculations
∗ Derivatives
∗ Risk issues
From currency option markets to the "third generation" hedging products that combine forwards and options, The Foreign Exchange and Money Markets Guide, Second Edition unites volumes of information in one single source–and demystifies the seemingly complex concepts facing investors today. --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Learning Finance, 12 Feb 2004
This book is ideal for anyone wanting to get into finance. In particular banking. Like many old 'industries' there are lots of ways of handing particlar aspects of the job that have grown up as conventions. These conventions may not make sense any more, but they are still used. For example, there are conventions about calculating the number of days between two dates that are designed to make things easy for people doing the maths by hand. Nowadays, with a computer it doesn't make sense to work this way, but there are parts of finance where these conventions are still used. Walmsley's book has all the nitty gritty you need to know to handle this part of your job.

He's also very good on the bigger picture. An overall background as to a bank's entire operation means that you can make sensible decisions.

All in all, recommended as an introduction and an indispensable reference to keep around.

Nick

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guide to everything FX and MM related, 26 Jan 2000
My 1992 edition has paid for itself time and again. Written very much from a practical perspective, this book deals solidly with topics which are either ignored or skated over by others.

When I was working on developing FX and MM trading systems, I found that the sections on MM and FX calculations were invaluable dealing as they did with the reality of FX and MM trading : calculating broken dates, forward forward rates, settlement dates and how to recalculate rates when there is a holiday in one or both currencies in an FX deal.

If you have anything to do with treasury front, mid or back office then buy this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The "bible" for FX and MM markets, 4 Aug 2004
This book is the one you must have if your are involved in the FX and MM field, being in a bank or in a corporate treasury. It has no equivalent and is a "gold mine". It goes into details re. market conventions and exceptions, with all calculation formulas.
Written in 2000 and now a little bit old (Euro was just at its beginning), let's hope that a 3rd edition of this precious book will come soon.
