Product Description

Product Description

More and more employees are having to sit psychometric tests as part of the interviewing process. On paper, a person′s skills and experience may perfectly fit the job description, but the employer also wants to know things about the individual′s personality: for example, their weak and strong points; whether they will fit in with the department; whether they can retain information quickly; and whether they have management potential or whether they will always require supervision.

This book is designed to help the individual master taking psychometric tests, and help them decide, before applying for a job, what their individual personality type is – extrovert, emotional, creative or assertive. Working through the tests will give the reader the ability to improve their skills in the key areas of lateral thinking, problem solving, and intelligence, and the book also provides a guide to assessing performance.

∗ Familiarity with the type of questions set in psychometric tests will give readers an idea of what to expect, and will help them relax in a test situation
∗ Authors are experts in psychometric and IQ testing and have written over 94 books on all types of tests
∗ More and more employers are using psychometric testing at interview – including government, education, industry, armed forces and commerce. There is a real need for this type of book to guide the potential employee through the structure of psychometric tests
Ken Russell and Philip Carter first met in 1984 through their membership of Enigmasig, a special interest group within British Mensa devoted to the setting and solving of puzzles. They published their first book as joint authors in 1987 and with the publication of this series will have over 100 titles to their credit ranging from quizzes, IQ testing and puzzles.

From the Publisher

The IQ Workout series has reached the significant milestone of 25,000 copies sold, in less than 18 months. The authors, who are both UK Mensa Puzzle Editors, have also reached a significant milestone with over 100 books on puzzles, testing and crosswords under their belts. Congratulations to them.

Whether you are preparing for interview, or just want to have fun testing yourself, make sure you don't miss out on these great books!

2.0 out of 5 stars not as good as most pyschometric books, 23 Nov 2002
I was really looking forward to completing these tests to find out what type of career i would be best suited to. But i was quite disappointed. Although the book is crammed full of tests, they were not the type of tests that i expected. Such tests as 'are you anxious or relaxed?' and 'are you honourable?' .I expected some information about how well i had done and what to do next, but all you get is a score, no information or suggestions as to what this means in terms of your possible potential in a given area. There was no information at the end of the tests to tell me what type of career i could reach my full potential in. This book is more for fun than for people who are serious about wanting to do psychometric tests to find out what career or job they would be best suited to. Overall i found this book disapointing and somewhat misleading as to what it offered.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 8 April 2004
I read this book hoping it would give me clear direction as to how to improve.
Unfortunately, the selection of the multi-choice options were too obvious for my test to be accurate - ie If doing the "Are you Sensual" test, it became obvious that all options 1 of the 3 options (YES, DON'T KNOW AND NO) would give you maximum marks.
The option "Don't Know" is a superfluous one in many instances. eg do you bet on horses regularly (in the "Are you Optimistic Test"). You either do or you don't.
This was irritating.
Poor book badly designed.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is fun, but a complete waste of time, 22 Nov 2003
I purchased this book at the airport hoping to pass the many long hours on a plane by delving deep into my personality and learning new things about my behavioural patterns and what made me tick. As it turned out, all I learned was that I only had the patience to do 4 or 5 tests before becoming irritated at the book.

I found the test topics to be of interest and also found that doing the test itself was a fun process. It is therefore unfortunate that each of the tests leaves the reader wanting for more, giving only a basic outline of what their score means as pertains to their character, personality, intelligence, or whatever topic is in question. After doing 4 or 5 tests I decided that reading my horoscope gives me a better reflection of my character and I was wasting my time going further.

If you are thinking of buying this book as a bit of fun .... don't.
