4.0 out of 5 stars Practical and good literature review on many topics., 10 May 2002
By A Customer
I am a British MBA and a CFA candidate. This book is part of essential reading for the CFA programme. I found this book very interesting. It contains very clear and in-dept analysis of financial statements with many real large companies as case studies.

In the UK, many accountancy textbooks only have brief descriptions about the financial theories. But, this book contains a lot of literature reviews. So, the book guide you to understand both the advantages and the limitations of many finanical theories. This book will also be very useful for postgraduate finance researchers who interest in further developing existing financal theories.

The focus of this book is to help the reader to understand the how the US GAAP interacting with many accounting ratio. So, this book is very useful to analysts as well as corporate managers. In addition, it also comparing the US GAAP with the accounting standards from other countries.

In brief, I would strongly recommend this book to world wild finance students at the final year of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional level. It is also a great read to those qualified accountants. However, the readers should bear in mind one thing - this book is written by American finance professions. So, their opinions in this book seen to more focus on the advantage of US GAAP but less concern with how the UK GAAP is better than the US GAAP, such as more transparency for shareholders, more emphasis on the true and fair value of the companies rather than simply more easy to compare the finanical ratio for analysts. So, you may impressed by the author's knowledge in accounting but don't misled by them. You should read more accounting books from other countries after you read this big book.

Not only does the book impress by its size and weight, but also by its supply of good information! This time it's quantity and quality! Besides this, the book is now part of the CFA program. There could be some more charts.

Fantastic book... Great for anyone who's trying to transcend from "accrual" to "cash flow" thinking!
