Amazon.co.uk Review
Is day trading just another form of gambling--a sure way for the unlucky to get to the poor house? Not at all, according to Bob Baird and Craig McBurney. In Electronic Day Trading to Win, the two set out to show how different sorts of people--professionals, part- time workers, those in dead-end careers, retirees and baby boomers--can be successful traders by applying the principles outlined in their book.

Baird, a geologist by training, and McBurney, who runs Trade Mentor, an Internet-based training programme for day traders, argue that the only way to trade today is through direct-access accounts (as opposed to trading through a broker or an online account). After an introduction to the workings of the various exchanges--as well as chapters on ECNs, market psychology and technical analysis--the authors show how to set up and use a trading screen, then they take readers through a typical trading day step-by- step.

Electronic Day Trading to Win is an easy- to-read and well-rounded introduction into the world of day trading that aspiring day traders would do well to add to their bookshelves, next to titles such as How to Get Started in Electronic Day Trading and Day Trade Online. --Harry C. Edwards, Amazon.com

5.0 out of 5 stars A "MUST" Read!, 16 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I found it quite "coincidental" that a negativelyslanted report on the "evils" of day trading just "happened" to be released within a week after the Atlanta tragedy. Why, someone more cynical than myself might conclude that the report's release was specifically held up until just such an event in an attempt to provide a double body blow to day trading. I wonder who might benefit from this?? Although I am only an infrequent online trader at present, I was curious enough to obtain a copy of "Electronic Day trading to Win," and read it. Based on media reports, I should have expected to find crass hucksters promising a sure-fire way to instant riches without having to lift so much as a finger by way of preparation and training. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to see the need for proper training hammered home over and over again throughout the book. I felt that Baird and McBurney would personally come and rap my knuckles with a ruler if I even thought of trying to day trade before I knew exactly what I was doing! Their recommendation of one to two months of paper trading before actual trading seemed very appropriate. Following that, the new trader is advised to trade with a small account, so that little buffer for error exists and the new day trader doesn't get slack. Given these rules, the worst possible scenario for any day trader is that they lose their entire small account. But since Baird and McBurney state that this account should be risk capital and not essential life savings, it's difficult to see how any of the horror stories hyped in the media could ever happen to anyone -- unless they tried day trading without the proper educational foundation first! The moral to this story is that anyone fancying himself or herself as a day trader MUST read "Electronic Day Trading to Win." END

2.0 out of 5 stars too many jokes, not enough knowledge, 31 Aug 2000
By A Customer
This book contains too many jokes. Although funny, they didn't give any help to the traders. It doesn't not have enough useful knowledge inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING INSIGHT! Must read or be behind the powercurve!, 14 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Wow! Baird and McBurney's book does all it promises to do regarding giving readers a firm foundatation in the principles of successful day trading, and I would highly recommend it for this alone. In addition, however, I found the authors' review of the history of day trading to be particularly enlightening. I was shocked at all of the anti-small-investor practices implemented by the big Wall Street brokerage houses, who missed not a single opportunity to place the small investor at the greatest disadvantage possible. Just one example of many is how clients were consistently overcharged by brokerage collusion to keep spreads artificially high. And these unfair policies went on for decades until stopped by Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission investigations and fines! If "60 Minutes" gets hold of this book, they will have to do two segments, one on Baird & McBurney's strategies and unmistakable emphasis on proper training, and the other on an exposee of the underhanded practices of the big brokerages. No wonder they're trying to trash online trading and day trading with every new news report. Well, if the big brokerages haven't liked what the Internet has done to them yet, just wait till they see what's in this book!
