5.0 out of 5 stars The best introduction to C++ I have read., 28 Nov 1999
By A Customer
This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to start learning C++ without learning C first. It gives you enough information to produce some good C++ programs and teaches it in terms of OO rather than a rehash of procedural techniques.

The book starts with a brief background description and introduction to object orientation and takes you through C++ program structure. It then explains the core language very clearly, following this with some excellent chapters on pointers and inheritance. There are also a couple of really good chapters on handling and managing objects in data structures. These are viable techniques that you can use even when you have moved on to bigger and better things.

The book works as an exellent primer and as a good reference. I keep it around all the time. If you want to learn C++, you could easily start with this book and then follow it up with primers on the various tools and specific technologies.

I would recommend this book both to programmers new to C++ and to experienced C++ programmers who want to refresh themselves with core programming techniques.
