1.0 out of 5 stars I thought IBM's documentation was bat until I read this book, 12 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I thought IBM's documentation was bat until I read this book. Don't be mislead into thinking that this book will be a tutorial on MQSeries. Everything that appears in this book you probably know already. Waste of money and time!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars A mainframe-centric, pro-IBM, glorified marketing handout, 25 April 1999
By A Customer
I read this book carefully cover to cover and conclude it was written by IBM mainframers to sell MQSeries to middle and upper management executives whose corporations are predominantly "big blue" shops. There is no mention at all of Microsoft's MSMQ and almost no reference to the internet. The book uses OS/2 in almost all its charts when showing client-server configurations. It abounds with detailed references to IBM products such as CICS, IMS, DB2, MVS, etc. The case studies are watered down to the point of being almost useless. I guess this is a "must read" book for a serious professional who needs to learn about messaging, but it is a shallow book and extremely one-sided.

4.0 out of 5 stars How to get started with message queuing, 24 Nov 1997
By A Customer
The push into distributed computing is forcing IS professionals to look for solutions to the problems inherent to the new environment. Especially with many organisations acquiring third-party software packages, good ways of getting these packages to communicate are important. This book provide good case studies in how other organisations have forged these links using MQSeries from IBM. The case studies are "sanitised," but the reader can get a good feel for what the products can do. I would have wished that the sample programs on the CD-ROM ran on Windows rather than OS/2, but other information is invaluable. This is a must read for anyone getting started with messaging in general and MQSeries in specific.
