4.0 out of 5 stars Real Reviews but a Weighty Tome, 25 Oct 2008
By Wendy Jones "wjones7423" (Southampton, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Although having been to Disneyworld previously this is the first time I have bought this book. They state that they will give the real picture and this they certainly do, in a very humorous way. The book is littered with hints and tips and gives information on the best ways to go on rides and which ones are usually worth the wait. However, I think sometimes there is a bit too much information which could reduce a lot of spontenaity. The do everything as quickly as possible approach my be ok if you are only in Orlando for a few days but for Brits going over there for three weeks it just sounds exhausting. Some of the advice is good, such as taking rest days. The section on Walt Disney World with Kids is excellent. For the first time I will be going with children (my nieces aged 8 and 5) and will certainly take into account much of the advice. Some of the advice on eating in the parks is excellent and again the hints and tips are welcome. The section on booking character meals sounded like it would be harder to mount than a polar expedition and has made me decide to avoid these like the plague. Thanks for the advice guys. For those who are desperate to dine with the characters the plan of action is very well laid out. Overall, I have found this book to be helpful and I am sure much of it will enhance the experience of my trip. I hope everyone else in my party (all 7 of us) find it just as useful. Why 4 stars. The book is very thick and weighs a ton. It makes it somewhat impractical to take to the parks, but in their defence, the authors do provide tear out information sheets and maps at the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommended!, 21 April 2009
By V. G. Gentchev (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

I bought this guidebook a few days before I left for WDW with the family. I am glad I did - before that, I had not realised how big WDW is and how useful this book would prove to be. It covers an incredible range of needs (for every type of person, I would say) so you would need to be selective when reading it, especially as it is so detailed. It proved extremely useful though as it helped me negotiate my way around the parks, chose suitable rides for everyone in the family, when to go to the rides, whether and when to queue or go for a FastPass, select suitable restaurants and cafes to eat in and how to reserve tables, how to beat the queues, etc. It also gives a lot of factual information on the attractions which you would not find anywhere else.

Much better than any other standard guidebook - definitely recommended but be prepared to find the time to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential guide to visiting Disney, 2 Mar 2009
Not only did the book reduce our waiting time and allow us to access updated touring plans on the TouringPlans website, it meant we got the most out of the rides and attractions by giving us background information. A lot of the attractions have a 'story' to them, which was not immediately obvious unless you had read up on it. It made our whole visit more enjoyable, and there were loads of extra hints and tips that we would not have known about, eg riding at the front of the monorail trains with the driver.

Yes, the book is heavy, but I still thought it worth carrying around, as we got so much out of it.

I can't recommend it enough.
