This is the first book of the first series set in this branch of the battletech/mechwarrior univers, and if this is a marker of its follow ups, it will be a very good addition. The book ties together a few threads from others before it (among others, Tassa Kay turns out to be a Kerensky-bloodnamed clan mechwarrior), and introduces new ones (Tara Campbell and Ezekiel Crow - who has a flashback chapter to his earlier life). It is very competently written, holding my interest for long swathes of time, although the battle sections appear fairly late on, and the last one seem to be too short in my opinion. It shows how serendipity (ie blind luck) can play in combat with the Will Elliot storyline. It shows the clan lifestyle of the Steel Wolves very well, as well as that of the Republic. The wording is fantastic with the characters, conjuring definitve images without overly long blocks of words. Overall, this is a very good book, onyl let down in very few areas in my opinion, a worthy read to anyone.
